Lucy Lawless Arrested: Help Zena Warrior Woman Fight to Save the Arctic!

23:59 Feb 29 2012 Port Taranaki, 4310, New Zealand

Lucy Lawless was arrested in New Zealand when she and six other Greenpeace activists climbed a tower on an oil rig and occupied it for three days, effectively delaying it's voyage to begin drilling of the Arctic wilderness for oil, a risky and poorly conceived notion that Shell has insisted can be done safely. The group were arrested after they were removed from the tower by police and charged with burglary.
"Lawless and a group of Greenpeace activists scaled the ship's 53-metre drilling derrick and unfurled banners in Port Taranaki at 7am on Friday.
The ship was scheduled to leave the port yesterday to drill three exploratory oil wells in the Chukchi Sea off the coast of Alaska, but the journey was delayed due to the protesters' actions.
Lawless' involvement drew international attention to their cause.
The police climbed the tower this morning to speak with the protesters, and subsequently arrest them. They did not resist.
Lawless, before being arrested, said the battle to save the Arctic had just begun." Sunday Star Times

Dear Mr. Voser,
Today, a drill ship is attempting to set off from New Zealand and sail to Alaska to start oil exploration for your company this summer.
The Arctic isn't a place you can exploit; it's a place we have to protect for the benefit of the entire planet. Time and time again, experts have expressed serious doubts about the possibility of cleaning up an oil spill in the Arctic. The technical challenges posed by drilling there are obvious and no matter how much you try to convince people that your company can operate safely in such a harsh environment, the only real guarantee is no drilling.
I demand that you scrap your Arctic plans immediately. I ask Shell to stop putting short-term profits ahead of the health and wellbeing of the planet we share.
Yours faithfully,
