We want food justice chant at OccupySF on Christmas Eve December 24th, 2012

Exciting news today from the Occupy movement - the small town farmers of America have been joined in their fight against super power Monsanto's genetically modified foods.... by Occupy! This boost of energy, human power and some of the most creative activist minds in the country is sure to give the farmers strength in their battle against a company that is threatening our very food supply.

This just in from Care2.comcause:
"Despite pressure from media critics to issue a list of demands, or focus on a unified message, the decentralized Occupy Wall Street movement in American has sought to maintain its comprehensive resistance to corporate greed in all forms.

Throughout the movement’s short history, we’ve seen OWS protests expose the dishonest practices of Big Banks, fight to save homes from unlawful foreclosure, and increase public knowledge of renewable energy, gardening and composting.

Occupy Wall Street acknowledges what many in today’s society can’t or won’t: that corporate greed permeates every industry in the United States, driving the 1%’s profits up while opportunities for small businesses plummet. Nowhere is this imbalance more obvious than than our food system.

On January 31st, family farmers from across the county will take part in the first phase of the OSGATA et al. v. Monsanto court case filed to protect farmers from genetic trespass by Monsanto’s genetically modified (GMO) seed, which can contaminate organic and non-GMO farmers’ crops and open them up to abusive lawsuits.

As a result of aggressive lawsuits against farmers with contaminated crops, Monsanto has created an atmosphere of fear in rural America and driven dozens of farmers into bankruptcy.
But farmers are fighting back! The Federal District Court judge has agreed to hear oral arguments in this landmark case to decide whether or not this case will move forward.

Occupy Wall Street Food Justice, Occupy Big Food and Food Democracy Now! will assemble in solidarity with farmers on the front lines of the struggle against corporate domination of our food system.

Those who believe the American food system has been overrun by the lobbying dollars of Monsanto and other similar corporations are invited to gather at 9 am on January 31st in Foley Square. There will be special speakers, demonstrations, and plenty of mic checks. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs or make them in the square." Care2causes
